This is the back of two of the pillars. This image shows the train tracks which I have been working on attaching to the pillars for days. The train track consists of over 40’ of stainless steel bar weaving around the four pillars.
Pathways is really taking shape. Here is a detail of the first pillar where the train tracks begin with the wheels.
I’ve been crawling inside the 8’ pieces, and welding the struts on the interior of the pillars all week. Lots of fun!!
I picked up the rolled train track pieces from Fabco Engineering in Fall River, MA. Using only the model as a guide, they rolled the thick stainless steel bar. They said it wasn’t an easy job. Once you see the fluid curves, you will think the bar was meant to be that way.
The stainless steel sheet metal was rolled, and delivered to my studio. Julie and I had an exciting day putting all of the big pieces together. It was fun seeing the actual size of the pieces. It’s great to see the artwork taking shape!
